Hello fellow hiptop owners. This morning I received a text message from FIDO. It said the following,
"Fido info: We have some important information about your Hip Top option. Please call us at 1-866-273-FIDO (3436) and press 2." I haven't called, too afraid they're going to tell me they are killing the data plan for the hiptop. Just last year I renewed my contract for another 2 years, but I still don't want to call. Has anyone else received this text message? If so, has anyone called to see what they have to say? |

Here's an idea: CALL THEM. Via relay or otherwise.

I was planning on calling when I got off shift, but if someone has already called it'd save me the grief.
@xps No offense, but everytime you post a reply or question you leave me wtfing. I have no idea what you are saying most times. Its like you put your posts through babblefish translator before you post. |

So I took a 5 minute break which turned into 20 minutes. I called fido, they are discontinuing the hiptop data plan as of april 30th 2009. =( The lady that was helping me was telling me that this is a definite, and the data plan will be gone. She was offering me the blackberry pearl for 40 dollars and a 500 meg data plan for $20 for the remainder of my contract.
This is truly a sad day for hiptop users in canada on the fido. I need a smoke. =( |

I can only hope that the reason for the sudden discontinuation of the hiptop data plan is that t-mobile will be coming to Canada. In a perfect world and only in my wildest speculations, I hope that it was danger/t-mobile's decision to no longer allow fido access to the danger servers due to their coming to the Canadian market.
I can only hope, and if that is the case, then it's bye bye fido for this hiptop fan. Only time will tell I suppose. |

I also can confirm this sad news. Called them up today, and they said that the 3rd party provider is no longer going to provide the internet service (divert the blame, always a good policy!) and the option given to me was a free Blackberry pearl with a 3 year contract. I've had a bad feeling ever since I saw the catalog go out of service.
I'm really going to miss my Hiptop2. It has served me well (and at a reasonable rate) for many years. Blackberries are for Obama, I want my Hiptop :( |

I too am going to miss my hiptop. Actually, my sidekick lx, I bought an unlocked one off ebay and it has been a dream the past 6 months.
Every time I pick up my phone now to google something or answer an email I have this really sad feeling come over me. It's funny how attached I've become to this device. Over the years I've gone through at least 6 phones, when I got the hiptop it was the first phone I stuck with and actually loved. I hope that the rumor that t-mobile/danger coming to canada turns out to be true, and that this is the reason why fido is decomissioning the hiptop option. I really hope the "third party" mentioned in the previous post is t-mobile/danger. I think moving to a blackberry is going to painful, especially the pearl with its retarded keyboard. They also offered me a free samsung jack, but its no sidekick/hiptop that's for sure. |
